No relief from rain in Ireland weather forecast with temperatures to drop

There is very little relief from the rain in Met Éireann's latest forecast for Ireland.

The country has been in the grips of Storm Babet this week with parts of Cork, Waterford and Kerry hit with Status Orange rain warnings and severe flooding.

In its latest forecast beyond Wednesday, Met Éireann is predicting more unsettled conditions right into the weekend.

They said "heavy rain will continue for the early part of tonight [Wednesday] with the further chance of localised flooding. The rain will become more confined to the north and east overnight, with drier spells and scattered showers developing elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southeast winds."

For Thursday morning, they say: "Any remaining rain will clear to the north. Scattered showers will follow from the south for the rest of the day, some of which will be heavy. Quite cloudy overall but sunny spells will develop. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds. More persistent rain will develop in the southwest later tomorrow evening, turning heavy at times.

"Showers will merge to longer spells of rain on Thursday night. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with generally light winds of varying direction but a fresh northwest breeze will develop on the Atlantic coast.

"Further showers or spells of rain on Friday, heavy in places with the chance of spot flooding. Maximum temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with moderate easterly breezes but fresh northerly breezes on the west coast. On Friday night, there will be scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle with the best chance for prolonged dry spells in the east of the country. Minimum temperatures generally ranging 7 to 10 degrees."

Looking at the weekend, forecasters said "a mix of bright spells and heavy slow-moving showers is expected on Saturday. There will be the continued chance of localised flooding."

it will be a cooler day with highs of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly light, variable winds.

"Clear spells and scattered showers on Saturday night. Lowest temperatures ranging 4 to 8 degrees generally with light winds," Met Éireann added.

They concluded: "Current indications suggest Sunday will bring a mix of sunshine and a few slow-moving showers. However, a spell of heavy rain is possible in the south later. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes."
