Met Éireann make two big predictions in weekend weather forecast for Ireland

Met Éireann has made two big predictions for our weather in Ireland this weekend but only one of them will be welcome news for most people.

The country enjoyed a warm and largely sunny June Bank Holiday weekend but temperatures have tapered off since. While we've seen some sunny spells this week, they have been broken up by heavy showers at times.

That is again the theme this weekend with those braving BBQs told to watch the forecasts very carefully to avoid their flames being dampened by rain.

Met Éireann's general outlook predicts "showers at times, most often affecting the north and west where it will also be coolest. Drier with closer to average temperatures in the south."

Their longer forecast says Friday "will start mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving southeastwards across the country. It will become drier and a bit brighter across the north later in the day with just isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a light to moderate westerly wind.

"Scattered showers on Friday night, most frequent in the north and west. Generally cloudy, although there will be occasional clear breaks. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate westerly wind.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers at first on Saturday, mainly affecting the north and west. Most places will become dry as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a moderate northwesterly wind.

"Mostly dry with clear spells early on Saturday night. Cloud will increase over the northern half of the country overnight, bringing some outbreaks of rain. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate west to northwest wind.

"Cloud and patchy rain over the northern half of the country will move southwards on Sunday morning, giving way to sunny spells and scattered showers from the north. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a moderate northwesterly breeze.

"Mostly dry with long clear spells and isolated showers [on Sunday night]. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in a light to moderate northwesterly wind."

Beyond the weekend, Met Éireann says it will be "largely dry with sunny spells on Monday morning, but getting increasingly cloudy with some showers later. Highest temperatures of 11 to 18 degrees, warmest in the south, in a light to moderate northerly breeze."
