LIVE: Met Éireann's St Patrick's Day weather forecast has good and bad news for parades

Met Éireann has delivered its weather forecast for St Patrick's Day and it contains good and bad news for those heading to or organising parades.

While the outlook says the weather at the weekend and on Monday for St Patrick's Day will be cold and breezy, Met Éireann are predicting plenty of dry weather.

Their overview says: "Cold with some frost and ice. Showers at times but generally plenty of dry weather."

For Friday, they predict conditions will be "mostly cloudy with scattered showers at first" adding that "some hail showers will be possible for a time, along with sleet on hills. It will become drier as the day goes on, with occasional breaks in the cloud. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a light to moderate east to northeast wind.

"Cold and dry with long clear spells [on Friday night]. Temperatures will fall to between -3 and 0 degrees so there will be widespread frost and some icy patches. Mist and fog patches will form too, in light and variable winds."

The forecast for Saturday states: "A cold, frosty and sunny start to the day with any mist and fog patches clearing. Cloud will increase as the day goes on and a few light showers will develop. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light northerly or variable breezes.

"Mostly dry and partly cloudy, with just isolated light showers [on Saturday night]. Patches of mist and fog will form in light and variable breezes. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.

"A few light showers, but generally dry with varying amounts of cloud [on Sunday]. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light easterly or variable winds."

For St Patrick's Day itself on Monday, Met Éireann says it will be "a little breezier with a moderate southeasterly breeze. After a largely dry start to the day, scattered showers will develop, but there will be some dry and bright periods too. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees."
