A Mass of solidarity with South Sudan is set to be held at Portroe Church next month.
Archbishop elect Monsignor Séamus Horgan will be celebrating Mass before he departs for South Sudan where earlier this year, he was appointed Papal Nuncio by Pope Francis.
South Sudan is currently in crisis as they continue to face a dire human rights and humanitarian situation. Conflict between government, opposing forces, and their respective allied militias, as well as intercommunal violence, in pockets of the country has resulted in the deaths, injuries, and displacement of thousands of civilians.
The Mass is the culmination of a month of prayer for South Sudan and the abolition of human trafficking.
The Odhrán pastoral choir will accompany the mass which takes places Friday 2 August at 7:30pm in Portroe church.
