Update: Funeral arrangements announced for Tipperary victim of road traffic accident

The funeral arrangements for Liam Hanrahan, the Thurles man who died following a traffic accident in the town have been announced.

Mr Hanrahan, who was in his 80s, of Rosemount, Thurles, and formerly Bayswell, Crosspatrick, county Kilkenny, was struck by a HGV on Liberty Square, Thurles, on Tuesday, August 15, at approximately 2.45pm. He passed away in University Hospital Limerick on August.

His remains will repose in Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Thursday, August 24, from 5pm to 7pm. Arriving at the Cathedral of the Assumption at 8pm.

Requiem Mass on Friday, August 25, at 11am.

Burial afterwards in St Patrick's Cemetery, Thurles.

Tributes have been pouring in for the victim of a road traffic accident in Thurles who has passed away.

“Liam was a legend and will be missed and remembered by the many people who knew him, especially those from Thurles and his beloved Galmoy,” Declan and Aileen posted on rip.ie

Tipperary Citizens Information Services said: “Our sincerest sympathies to Liam’s family on his sudden passing.
Liam was always a gentleman to deal with and always had a kind word for everyone in our offices.”

Cllr Frank Roche from Cork also offered his sympathies to the family.

One person who knew Liam described him as “black and amber to the core” even though he had been living in Tipperary for around 50 years.

“He never forgot his Kilkenny roots,” they said.

Liam initially worked selling milking machines before taking up a position servicing fire extinguishers.

He was an avid card player and golfer with Thurles Golf Club, and was still out on the course until recently in his golf buggy.
Mr Hanrahan was also involved in Thurles Sarsfields GAA Club as well as Dúrles Óg. He also worked in the tote at Thurles Greyhound Track.

Mr Hanrahan’s brother Tony was a teacher in Scoil Ailbe, Thurles, for a long number of years.

Mr Hanrahan, who was married to Thurles woman Ursula, (née Gleeson), was predeceased by his parents Michael and Bridget; brothers Sean and Tim; sisters Sheila and Sr Margaret; nephew Michael.

Deeply regretted by his heartbroken family, devoted wife Ursula (née Gleeson); sons Michael, Clive and Niall; daughter Chiara; grandchildren Alba, Ava, Cate, Mia, Dan and Neasa; daughters-in-law Marian, Anne and Denise; son-in-law Shane; brothers Michael and Tony; sisters Breda and Sr Mary; nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Meanwhile, the gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the fatal accident to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm to make this footage available to gardaí.
