Portroe’s Willis Steel Ltd wins Irish Steel Award for Dexcom Stadium project
Willis Steel Ltd, based at the former Tubex plant in Portroe, has won first prize in the Finished Projects Category – Constructional Steelwork – Special Projects at the Irish Steel Awards 2026 for its work on Connacht Rugby’s Dexcom Stadium redevelopment.
The awards ceremony was held at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise on Friday, 16 October.
Willis Steel Ltd served as the principal structural steel fabrication contractor for the Dexcom Stadium redevelopment, with responsibility for three major elements of the project: the High Performance Centre (HPC), the Indoor Pitch Facility and the North Stand development.
The project involved collaboration between designers, contractors and specialist trades to deliver a modern sporting facility. The redevelopment required technical expertise, precision engineering and rigorous quality control to ensure the successful integration of complex steel structures within a live construction environment.
Willis Steel Ltd was responsible for the fabrication and delivery of the structural steelwork packages across all three developments.
The completed redevelopment has transformed the stadium environment, providing enhanced facilities for athletes, supporters and the wider community. The facility is now fully operational and open to the public.
The award recognises Willis Steel Ltd’s contribution to the Dexcom Stadium redevelopment and its work in delivering the structural steelwork for this major sporting project.
